The adventure commences with an early morning departure from Arusha, heading towards Londorossi Gate, the starting point of the Northern Circuit Route. After completing the necessary park formalities at the gate, trekkers meet their guides and porters, ready to embark on their journey. The trek begins through lush rainforest, where towering trees create a canopy overhead. By late afternoon, adventurers arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750 meters), their first campsite, where they settle in for the night, surrounded by the sounds of nature.
The second day’s trek sees trekkers continue their ascent, bidding farewell to the rainforest as they enter the heath and moorland zone. The landscape gradually transforms, offering panoramic views of the surrounding terrain. Passing through the expansive Shira Plateau, adventurers arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,610 meters), their next overnight stop. Here, they are treated to stunning vistas of Kilimanjaro’s peaks as they prepare for another day of trekking.
Continuing their journey across the Shira Plateau, trekkers marvel at the vastness of their surroundings. The trail unfolds amidst otherworldly landscapes, with rocky outcrops and sparse vegetation dotting the terrain. Arriving at Shira 2 Camp (3,850 meters) by late afternoon, adventurers settle in for the night, surrounded by the raw beauty of their surroundings. Here, they have the opportunity to rest and acclimatize, preparing for the challenges that lie ahead.
Today’s trek takes trekkers through rugged terrain towards Moir Hut, situated in a desolate yet captivating landscape. As they ascend towards the Lent Hills, adventurers are treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Arriving at Moir Hut (4,200 meters), trekkers have the chance to rest and acclimatize before continuing their journey. Here, amidst the stark beauty of the Arctic Zone, they enjoy dinner and camaraderie with fellow trekkers before retiring for the night.
The day’s trek unfolds through the alpine desert, with trekkers crossing the vast plateau towards Buffalo Camp. Along the way, they encounter unique flora and fauna, including giant lobelias and other endemic species. Arriving at Buffalo Camp (4,020 meters) by late afternoon, adventurers set up camp amidst the pristine wilderness, surrounded by towering peaks and endless horizons. Here, they rest and refuel, readying themselves for the days ahead.
Descending into the Great Barranco Valley, trekkers are treated to stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The trail traverses rocky terrain as adventurers make their way towards Third Cave (3,870 meters), their next campsite. Arriving in the late afternoon, trekkers have the opportunity to rest and recharge, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of their journey thus far. Here, amidst the rugged beauty of Kilimanjaro’s slopes, they prepare for the days ahead.
The day begins with an exhilarating ascent towards School Hut (4,800 meters), the final basecamp before the summit push. As trekkers ascend steep slopes, they enter the Arctic Zone, where temperatures drop and terrain becomes increasingly rugged. Arriving at School Hut in the late afternoon, adventurers rest and prepare for the ultimate challenge – the summit attempt. Here, amidst the harsh beauty of the high altitude landscape, they steel themselves for the journey ahead.
In the predawn hours, trekkers embark on the summit attempt, navigating the challenging slopes of Kilimanjaro. With determination and perseverance, they reach Gilman’s Point (5,681 meters), a significant milestone on the journey. Continuing towards Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views and a profound sense of accomplishment. Descending back to School Hut for a brief rest and breakfast, adventurers continue their journey towards Mweka Camp (3,100 meters), where they spend the night amidst the lush rainforest, reflecting on their remarkable achievement.
The final day of the trek sees trekkers descending through the rainforest, the air alive with the sounds of birds and wildlife. Arriving at Mweka Gate, adventurers complete park formalities and receive their summit certificates, a tangible symbol of their accomplishment. Boarding vehicles waiting to transfer them back to Arusha, trekkers bid farewell to Kilimanjaro, carrying with them memories of camaraderie, triumph, and the indomitable spirit of adventure.
